Ayurveda Stories

The ayurveda world

 Story No 1.
Poison or toxicity in the food has varied effect on the birds that are having the same. Whereas the Crow loses the pitch of its voice, Parrot and Mynah being to yell; the Goose loses its gait, the Cuckoo bird loses its pleasant tone, the Cock starts to scream and a bird having the name ‘Jeevjivak’ (which means life), tends to die at the very sight of poison. Similarly, some animals show distinct characteristics on eating the poisoned food. Whereas Moneys generally tend to immediately defecate, the Mongoose shows raised hair on its body and the Deer starts to cry. It is also interesting to note that the Peacock shows reverse reaction on eating poison. Whereas this bird would exhibit pleasant and joyful disposition, it is also exciting to know that when the Peacock looks at the poison, this reduces the effect of the poison.

Story No. 2
After completing of the meal, Vishrama (small nap or restis recommended in Ayurveda text. For this, at first 8 breaths need to be taken while lying on the back in supine position, then 16 breaths on the right side and thereafter 32 breaths are to be taken while lying on your left side. The logic behind this is that lying straight on the back for a longer time can cause regurgitation of the ingested food. It is therefore advised that only 8 breaths are sufficient in this position. Thereafter lying first on the right and then on the left side helps the food that is being digested to come in contact with the gastric juices and the gastric acid for proper digestion of the food. This information is mentioned in Ayurveda text describing Bhojanotar Karma, the accentuated ritual of diet and digestion.

Story No. 3

The merits as well as demerits in Shastra( Weapon), Shaastra (Wisdom text) and Jala ( Water) are invariantly proportional to the Paatra (Container/Subject). This means that when a weapon is in the hands of a brave person, it provides victory and thus proves useful. Whereas when the same weapon lies in the hands of a timid man, it would cause harm and defeat for him. Similarly, the water lying in clean and clear container would provide with health benefits, and yet when the same water is stored in dirty container, it will cause disease. Thus is the influence of the wisdom text. When the knowledge text is read and understood by a wise person referred to as Supatra ( Eligible Subject), he would use the awareness for the betterment of one and all; whereas the same words of wisdom when read by a person with lesser intellect and understanding who is a Kupatra ( Incorrect Subject), would cause unwanted confusion and disorder.
Ayurveda conveys that Shaastra (Wisdom text) is like an earthen lamp which provides with the guiding light for enhancing the intelligence as well as the insight. And thus, when the physician is a true follower of the same, there are negligible chances that he could make a mistake in the treatment that he offers.

Ayurveda Analysis of Immunity - How to Build Your Natural Immunity

Ayurveda India

According to Ayurveda text, the natural immunity of an individual may be categorized into three types depending upon the Vyadhikshamatva (resistance against disease) and Bala (strength) of an individual.

Three kinds of Immunity

Three kinds of Immunity
Sahaja

This is the constitutional immunity of an individual. This is the innate strength that is gained in the form of a foetus at the time of fertilization. It is supported by the natural factors of the health and strength (immune power) of the sperm of the father and ovum of the mother, the quality of place and time during the period of conception.

Kaalaja

This is mainly the temporal invulnerability that an individual gains naturally in his lifetime; pertaining to factors like young age, following of good moral character and the right seasonal support.

Yuktija

Yuktija is the acquired immunity that can be gained by virtue of making positive changes in the Aahara (diet pattern) and Vihara (everyday lifestyle). There are a number of Ayurveda herbal formulation and natural herbs that would be extremely supportive in building the acquired immune power.

Nature is the Sole Provider

Nature is the Sole Provider !

Buddha once said: “If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change!”

This needs to be understood that like other forms of nature, we too are made from the five basic natural elements. So we are 100 per cent natural! And thus it feels good as and when we are in proximity to the five natural elements.

Connect with Nature Often

Connecting with nature bestows immense contentment and tranquillity as we are holistically similar — sky, air, fire, water and earth. Taking a look at your body would convince you of this reality. Ether or the sky represents the empty space between your body organs —inside the ears, in the minute cells, etc. The element of air imparts all the movement that we experience like breathing, blinking our eyes and so on. The fire in our body is represented by the metabolic heat, gastric heat, body temperature etc. And water takes the form of saliva, blood, plasma, various secretions and digestive juices et al. And finally the earth element makes up all matter within us, be it muscle mass, bones, tendons, ligaments: whatever adds to the body substance.

Bestowing Self-Realisation

As and when you are consciously one with nature, you will realise the peaceful and blissful realm within!

Once Alexander the Great was impressed with the spiritual merits of an Indian saint and expressed his desire to take the saint to his country, offering him rewards and a fruitful life. But the sage answered wisely that he was content with where he existed and that he was one with nature. He told Alexander, “Nature is my sole source and provider. The trees provide me with fruits and the springs quench my thirst with their fresh, sweet water. What else would I need?”

ayurveda

When Alexander heard this he aimed his sword at the saint. At this, the saint burst into laughter and said, “How can you harm someone who is one with nature. When small children make houses out of sand and demolish them, nothing happens to the sand. Similarly, the stars in the sky are never separated from light. Thus, when we are one with nature, then there is nothing to fear. This is because as we are all natural beings, you are myself and I am yourself.” Alexander fell at the feet of the saint in remorse.

Nature Conveys

Similarly, these lines of Caras, 1977 quoted in Swanson, 2000 provide us with more understanding…

“Every time we look up and see a cloud and understand it, we are closer to understanding ourselves. When we pick up a rock and admire it instead of hurling it at something, we are closer to some ultimate truth. When we hear a bird and stop for the sheer pleasure of that sound, we are nearer to real life than we were before. When we acknowledge beauty, we benefit from it most.”
